Whether a novice or seasoned diver, our guides will take you to explore these renowned world class dive sites. Between dives, relax and soak up the stunning imagery of wild Indonesia. On our journey, as we set sail along the string of sleepy islands, you’ll notice life is so much better at sea. All this is done in comfort & style aboard our luxurious Komodo Liveaboard.

Day 1 – Welcome to Adelaar!
Our meeting point will be at the wooden jetty in front of the Dolphin Lodge in Serangan Harbor at 8:00AM, where the crew will be waiting to transport you to the Adelaar. Once onboard, there will be a ‘ships briefing’ to acquaint you with shipboard living and to discuss safety issues. We set off from Serangan Harbor and go along the coastline of Bali, cruising overnight to Sumbawa Island. You can spend the day getting settled into your stateroom, or just relaxing on deck. We hope for a magnificent sunset over Bali’s majestic Mt Agung.
Day 2 – Sumbawa
Arise for coffee on deck admiring the coastline. Two morning dives are scheduled at Pulau Moyo along the fringing reef outside the main village. Arrival in Satonda will be late aternoon with one dive along a sloping reef. The sandy bottom with many coral outcroppings offers plenty of interesting things to see. Satonda is a volcanic island. At sunset we admire the bats taking off into dusk before the first night dive of the trip. We depart and cruise through the night toward Sangeang.
Day 3 – Sangeang
Sangeang volcano, whose most recent eruption was in 2014, rises in front of your eyes. As we approach, you can see the smoke as it flows from the crater edge into the wind. The black sandy bottom makes for spectacular diving. In places, gaseous sulfur bubbles up from the ground, creating an underwater jacuzzi! We jump into the dark water to spot the weird critters Sangeang has to offer on the second night dive. We will travel through the night.
Day 4 – North Komodo
We are up early today for a glimpse of the sunrise as we arrive early at Gili Lawa Laut, in the northern area of Komodo National Park. The park is located in the region known as Wallacea, denoting the overlapping of Australian and Asian biogeographical areas. This overlapping ensures an interesting mix of bird species. As the day continues, we travel through the Park diving along the way to reach a quiet bay for the night.
Day 5 – Komodo Bay & Lehok Sera
Dragons wait for no man! We have an early start today at 7:00AM to meet our park ranger for a guided hike into the interior of Komodo Island, where we hope for sightings of prehistoric Komodo dragons. This World Heritage site, the only place on earth that these giant monitor lizards can be found, was recently designated
as one of the 7 Wonders of the World. Once back onboard, a scrumptious lunch will be served on deck. Enjoy the beautiful ocean views as we head towards south Komodo. We will make a stop along the coast for diving, then continue on to Lehok Sera for a dusk dive to search for the elusive mandarin fish. We anchor for the night in this quiet and picturesque bay. Weather permitting, dinner will be served topside.
Day 6 – South Komodo
We leave early morning for Langkoi, also known as Manta Alley, on Komodo’s south coast. We are on a manta quest today, and we have planned two dives here where we hope to see these magnificent animals gracefully feeding. This area typically has much cooler temperatures with nutrient rich waters, and lower visibility. After our dives, we enjoy lunch as the boat moves to southern Rinca to an area known as Nusa Kode. With the towering cliff walls surrounding all sides, the landscape in this remote area, is breathtaking. Our third dive today will be our first macro dive of the trip. Between dives, we board the dinghy and head towards shore to get up close to the resident dragon population. Weighing up to 350 pounds and with a total length of over 10 feet, these fearsome hunters can charge swiftly to bring down a variety of prey, some as big as a water buffalo. After the sun sets, we prepare for a night dive, and a late dinner.
Day 7 – South Rinca
Mornings and evenings in Nusa Kode are a time where you can spot dragons wandering along the beach foraging for food. Monkeys, deer and hunting sea eagles are also known to make an appearance. There are two dives planned for this area, one of which will be the famous ‘macro temple” of Cannibal Rock. Depending on the season, almost everything you can find in a critter book has been sighted here. During lunch, we journey back up north for diving in Padar, where water temperatures start to get warmer and visibility gets a bit better. Later in the afternoon we go ashore for a hike across the island for a spectacular view of the sunset, and enjoy a sundowner.
Day 8 – Padar & North Rinca
We leave Padar in the early morning to re-enter the center of the Park for our diving day. Here there is generally better visibility and larger schools of fish. In the late afternoon, we make our way to Wainilu where we anchor for the night and prepare for a night dive.

Maumere/Flores - Alor - Maumere (12 Days/11 Nights) 32+ dives

adelaar alor dive cruises indonesia

In the fall  ADELAAR sails east of Flores, off the beaten path, from Maumere to the alluring Alor archipelago. Join us for 11 nights on our exclusive luxury liveaboard and explore the spectacular dive sites of Alor. En route, there is also a chance to catch a glimpse of surfacing whales and super pods of dolphins. Discover the unspoiled nature of these islands, meet real life headhunters and experience traditional fishing techniques.

Day 1 – Maumere, Flores
An early morning flight from the island of Bali, brings you to the harbor town of Maumere on the island of Flores. Our staff will greet you at the airport upon arrival, and accompany you to the Adelaar. A main port town for the island, Maumere harbor has a colorful local market where the women sell an array of handwoven ikats, fresh vegetables, meats and fish. Strategically located on the northern coastline, Maumere has a mixed population of Christians and Muslims, eager to meet tourists interested in their culture. Once onboard, we plan to do a check dive close by, then sail onwards through the night towards North Lembata.
Day 2 – North Lembata
Awake and enjoy a coffee on deck as we start our first full day of diving in this remote location with stunning topographical features and beauty. The narrow strait allows for a steady flow of currents bringing deep water nutrients up to feed the lush corals and marine life. Off in the blue, pelagic creatures often make an appearance. In between dives, keep an eye on the horizon for passing cetaceans, as fall is whale migration season.
Day 3 – Savu Sea
We have sailed south to extremely remote areas, accessible only by liveaboard. We will explore world-class dive sites around the untouched islands of the Savu Sea, which lies in the strait west of Pantar Island. These small islets tend to gather congregations of fish, which makes for a delightful dive as larger reef animals swim past the colorful Indian Ocean reefs.
Day 4 – South Pantar
We start our exploration of Alor’s dive sites in the isolated area of Beangabang, which is a highlight of South Pantar. The small village, built around a church, is situated on a black sand beach. Locals must travel by boat to reach the main towns of Alor to gain access to shops and medical facilities. Down by the jetty, we have the option to walk carefully through a steamy natural volcanic water source. Thanks to the volcanic and fresh water environment, Beangabang’s dive site “Religious critters”, which lies just off the beach, is a haven for weird and macro creatures. Photographers and muck diving enthusiasts will enjoy spending time in the sand looking for these rare wonders.
Day 5 & 6 – Pantar Strait
Picturesque villages cling to the steep rocky slopes of the islands in this Strait, which also hides wonderful and exciting dive sites. We explore the walls, drop-offs, slopes and underwater valleys and ridges of Pantar, Alor and Pura islands. This region has a reputation as a world-class dive destination, with some of the best-preserved reefs in Indonesia. Patchwork fields of varied anemones stretch as far as the eye can see. Hand-woven bamboo fish traps lying in the reef shallows make a picturesque scene. During safety stops, we look up in search of hand-carved outrigger boats of local fishermen. Their children love jumping in the water to visit surfacing divers, wearing incredible homemade glass goggles and big friendly smiles. Alorese hospitality is like nowhere else on earth.
Day 7 – Kalabahi Bay
This morning, we enter a traditional village of the Abui tribe, feared headhunters until 1984. The fierce dance these warriors perform as you enter the village remains unnerving to this day. Enjoy the hypnotic sound of the moko drums as the Abui people dance. For the ceremony, the Abui wear colorful ikats that they have hand-woven in a pattern that is specific to their tribe. As they dance the lego lego, the jingling sound of their metal anklets eerily fills the air with each step.
Our two dives planned for the afternoon and evening will be refreshing after the morning adventures. Kalahahi bay is well known for its exciting muck diving.
Day 8 – Pantar Strait
Just off the shore of Pulau Ternate, dozens of women approach liveaboards to display and sell their hand-made ikats woven in patterns, which reflect the fishing traditions of their respective cast. There is time between our dives today if you wish to purchase one of these unique ikat.
We dive today around the islands of Ternate and Reta for a glimpse into the underwater world teaming with a huge range of fish species and marine life scattered along the colorful walls.
Day 9 – North Adunara
As we sail leisurely towards Flores Island, the landscapes change once more into the dry hills and sandy beaches that became familiar on initial days of our journey. We have saved some of the best and most amazing reefs of the remote islands for last! Lush corals and clouds of fish are on the menu with a side of muck diving later in the day as we embark on a new critter hunt.
Day 10 & 11 – Maumere
Our last days onboard are spent exploring the beautiful coastline and islands near Maumere. The landscape is a postcard-like paradise with white sand beaches and turquoise blue water. We will dive along the walls and ridges looking for sharks and other denizens of the deep.
Day 12 – Goodbye!
Breakfast will be served onboard before you disembark and are transferred to the airport or to your hotel. We wish you a safe onward journey and hope you enjoyed your time on the Adelaar, made new friends and had the experience of a lifetime.
